On Sunday, July 14, Thompson's Point in Portland, Maine, was buzzing with anticipation for a night of great music. The Counting Crows took the stage and delivered a performance that was nothing short of fantastic. With the scenic backdrop of the sunset over the water, the setting and superb weather perfectly complemented the band's classic tunes.

As the lights dimmed and the first chords of "Sullivan Street" filled the air, it was clear that the evening would be special. Adam Duritz, the band's frontman, captivated the audience with his distinctive voice and emotive delivery. The entire band put on a stellar performance, leaving the crowd singing along to every hit.

The setlist was a well-crafted mix of classic hits and newer tracks, offering something for both long-time fans and new listeners. Songs like "Mr. Jones" and "A Long December" sparked sing-alongs, the crowd's voices merging with Duritz's in a beautiful, collective expression of nostalgia and joy. Meanwhile, covers of classics like “Friend of the Devil” by the Grateful Dead and “Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni Mitchell added a delightful twist. There was a little bit of everything in this set, making it the perfect blend for all listeners.

One of the standout moments of the night was the performance of "Colorblind." The beautiful piano melody and Duritz's haunting vocals created a moment of pure, emotional intensity. The audience was spellbound, the entire venue seemingly holding its breath until the final note faded into the night.

The band's chemistry was evident throughout the performance. Guitarists David Immerglück, David Bryson, and Dan Vickrey provided a solid foundation and added rich layers of sound. Their tight musicianship and genuine camaraderie elevated the concert, creating a seamless performance, even after 30 years.

The atmosphere at Thompson's Point was electric, with the crowd's energy feeding off the band's enthusiasm. The outdoor venue's acoustics were excellent, and the intimate setting allowed for a more personal connection between the performers and the audience.

The encore was a triumphant conclusion to the evening. The band returned to the stage with "Hanginaround," followed by an impassioned rendition of "Holiday in Spain." The final notes left the audience on their feet, ready for more.

Counting Crows' performance in Portland last Sunday night was a night you wouldn't have wanted to miss. It brought us back to the 90s to reflect on the iconic rock tunes by a band whose music will never go out of style.
