Latin Duo X2 Talks Debut Single "Como La Última Vez" + More with MNGBlog
/At 23 years old, Ezequiel and Jeremiah Cardenas—now known as X2—are on their way to something big.
With dreams of inspiring others and spreading important, relatable messages through their music, the Latin duo emanates sunny positive vibes and has made a huge splash in the industry this year.
"We are twin brothers who have grown up surrounded by music," the pair told Musical Notes Global. "Although we are twins we are very different in personality. We love to share our passion for music and hope that we impact people in a positive way."
Born in Long Beach, California, the brothers, who are of Mexican and Central American descent, got their start in their church choir and then moved on to music competition shows like American Idol, X Factor UK, and La Banda. Now beginning to establish a serious professional career, they carry these experiences with them as a foundation on which they can continue to build their dreams. "It definitely prepared us to have thicker skin," they told Musical Notes Global about their experiences. "It helped prepare us mentally and gave us great insight and understanding to what happens behind the scenes. It also gave us a better perspective of the business side of the music industry."
But while they started to make a name for themselves on those shows (in the process they gained thousands and thousands of adoring fans and followers on their social networks), lasting success is not something that can be achieved overnight, and it was their mother who constantly reminded them about the value of hard work and determination. "Our mom has always told us to work hard and persevere," they said. "There were times when she was working 2 and 3 jobs to keep everything together. She was definitely our role model on working hard and being able to persevere when times were tough. She also taught us about patience and how important it is to be patient especially we don't want to be. =)"
X2 released their official debut single "Como La Última Vez" in August with the independent record label Top Stop Music (also home to Cuban salsera Aymee Nuviola), and there couldn't have been a more perfect song with which they could have made their first formal mark on the industry. "We collaborated with Guianko, who is an amazing songwriter that we respect a lot," they told Musical Notes Global. Tropical and upbeat with a super catchy sing-along chorus, the track was produced by Guianko along with Juan Mario and Mauro and also features Jamaican reggae artist Roy G. "The story behind 'Como La Última Vez' is about a guy who was dating a girl and they had a falling out," they explained. "Even though he tries, he can't get her out of his mind so he goes to her to try again one last time. What it means to us is that it is always worth giving it one more shot to make sure you're not missing out on something really wonderful."
The duo has already achieved significant success with the release of their first single. The track hit the top 20 on Billboard's Tropical Airplay chart earlier this month, and the music video, which was filmed in Cojimar, Cuba (the fishing town made famous by Ernest Hemingway), quickly racked up over 1 million YouTube views after its release last month. "It feels awesome!" the brothers commented about this important milestone in their career. "It feels rewarding, it's amazing to look into the future and know what we can accomplish."

X2 is currently on a promotional tour that has already taken them through Las Vegas, Miami, and New York, and will bring them to Los Angeles in December. "We are really looking forward to the opportunity to get our name out there and let people really learn what we are about," they said. "It will be awesome to show a bigger audience our craft and network with people who may not know of us yet. This is also a great opportunity for us to reach out to our fan bases in these areas."
Since beginning their promotional tour, X2 has performed their single on Univision's Despierta America and has made appearances on New York radio station Mega 97.9fm and Univision's Edición Digital Nueva York. "We definitely want to thank our fans for all the support they have given so far," they added. "We are grateful to have them during this journey and look forward to much more."
