A Star Is Born: A Soon-To-Be Favorite
/What do you get when you cross love and fame? You get Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, and a rock love story straight out of your wildest dreams.
A Star Is Born is the 2018 retelling of the 1976 remake of the 1943 drama. (Keeping up so far? Great!). Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, American Sniper, The Elephant Man), wrote the new screenplay with Eric Roth and Will Fetters, while also directing and producing the film.
Cooper stars alongside the great Lady Gaga, who plays leading lady Ally. Ally, an amateur performer, falls for Jackson (Cooper), who is an “established” singer. The movie follows her story as she rises to fame, Jackson’s fall from fame, and their relationship.
All music in the film is performed by Cooper and Gaga and was written by Luke Nelson (the son of Willie Nelson), Gaga, Cooper, and others, including Hillary Lindsey and Mark Ronson. From one listen of the first single released from the film, “Shallow” (written by Andrew Wyatt, Gaga, Mark Ronson, and Anthony Rossomando), one can tell that the soundtrack is going to be something special. Gaga and Cooper's voices are perfect together—almost haunting in a way that they tell their own love story throughout the 3:36 song. Gaga’s raw voice and vulnerability grants her a new side, a side touched on in Joanne, but broadened in “Shallow.” Cooper, on the other hand, is a newcomer in the music industry, but he sounds like he’s been singing professionally for decades, seemingly inspired by Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson.
