Andrés Cepeda + Fonseca Deliver New End-Of-Year Anthem "La Promesa"

Two of Colombia’s greatest music icons, Andrés Cepeda and Fonseca, have teamed up for a fun new song that will have everyone ringing in 2020 with a smile.

Born out of friendship, “La Promesa” is the first single of the two Bogotá-born artists’ joint musical project Compadres. The song makes the perfect track for celebrating the end of the year and welcoming the year ahead, reminding listeners to reflect on all they have accomplished and to keep their eyes set on all of the goals they have yet to achieve.

"‘La Promesa’ is a song that brings together a list of purposes that we make by the end of the year,” Cepeda explains. “Lose weight, to save money, to buy something, change jobs, change houses, among others. Some may be achievable, others may not, but all of them have the objective of improving our quality of life. This song celebrates all that, the family reunion, to continue growing, to continue building, is the reflection of what people want every time a year ends. For that reason with my compadre Fonseca we made that song laughing a little bit about what can be achieved and what cannot.”

Fonseca notes: "‘La Promesa’ for me is a song that evokes all that December feeling between nostalgia, joy and the desire to receive a new year with great purposes. It leads to that reflection between repentance, joy and what is a good party.”

Finding its roots in Colombia’s iconic vallenato folk style, the song boasts an uplifting beat and infectious rhythms that awaken the spirit, while “the king of vallenato,” Jimmy Zambrano, adds a touch of the traditional sound characteristic of the country’s northern coast with his sparkling accordion. Both Cepeda and Fonseca won Latin Grammys this year. Cepeda won the category Best Traditional Tropical Album for his album Andrés Cepeda Big Band (En Vivo), and Fonseca won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Agustín.

The two artists are planning a joint tour for 2020.
