Rising Artist Spotlight: Mikey Talks New Single "This Won't Last Forever"

Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter Mikey is our latest pop obsession, and he’s going to be yours too.

Over the past couple of years, after spending time writing and opening for artists like Lauv, LeAnn Rimes, A R I Z O N A, and Jacob Whitesides on tour, the New Jersey native has constructed an addicting shimmering sound that is as refreshing as it is hip, and it’s perfect for your summer playlist.

Mikey just released his new single “This Won’t Last Forever,” an ode to short-term relationships that follows the success of “Bitter” and “T-shirt,” his two previous singles. “I wrote ‘This Won't Last Forever’ with my buddy Michael Morgan who is an insanely talented writer and producer (he also produced this one),” Mikey explained to Musical Notes Global. “It's a song about being aware you're in a relationship that is only temporary. We kept it fun sounding to help drive the point that even though it's kind of a sad song about a relationship that won't last, it was there was still a connection and a lot of positive memories. I was definitely able to pull from past experience and I think a lot of people can relate to being with somebody who you really do love and enjoy being with, but there's something in the back of your mind telling you they still might not be the one.”

For Mikey, the track symbolizes something more than just a new single. “This song to me is a big representation of the next step in my career with this new project,” he said. “I've been writing over the past two years while planning out my next moves and this was one of the songs that stood out to me and said ‘okay, this is something new and exciting that you haven't done yet.’ I've always had a fear of writing super fun sounding songs just because I've always gravitated towards the slower, sadder ones but this was a song that showed me you can be emotional and have meaning behind a song WHILE making something that is a ton of fun.”

As he looks forward to releasing new music through the rest of this year, he hopes that listeners will be able to relate to his honest words and catchy melodies. “I just hope they listen to it and enjoy it,” he said about his current single. “That's all you can really hope for when you put something new out. I hope they are able to relate in some way and show their friends. I can't wait to get more music out there for everyone to listen to!”
