Singer-songwriter Ásgeir first rose to fame when he released the highest-selling debut album by a native Icelandic artist in 2012 with Dýrð í dauðaþögn (In The Silence), outselling Björk, Sigur Rós and Of Monsters & Men.

In 2020, the Nordic Music Prize nominee and four-time Icelandic Music Award winner is preparing to release his newest collection, and it may be his most personal yet.

Bury The Moon, in Icelandic Sátt, will drop on February 7. The album was created in isolation, with Ásgeir leaving the country’s capital city of Reykjavik following the end of a long-term relationship to spend the winter in a friend’s country house. With only a guitar and a small keyboard as his tools to birth melodies and arrangements, he wrote alone, and Bury The Moon began to take shape. “I went with just the guitar and piano for a reason,” he reveals. “I wanted to make a simple album that didn’t process too much or think too much. It would just be what the songs were and nothing more than that.”

“Lazy Giants,” the most recent single to be released from the album, explores the chaos and destruction of economic collapse, its thematic urgency echoed in the shimmering instrumentation. Watch the official music video below.

Bury The Moon features lyrics penned by Ásgeir’s father, a renowned poet, and American songwriter John Grant, who provided the English translations.

Ásgeir will tour the U.S. and Canada in March 2020. Dates below.
