Shirazee Frees the Spirit with New Single "Right Thang" ft. Busiswa
/Today Musical Notes Global is heading to Africa with the latest from NYC-based Afropop fusion singer-songwriter Shirazee.
Born and raised in Benin, Shirazee is a radiant beacon of light, offering an eclectic, scintillating sound and songwriting prowess profoundly influenced by America’s greatest musical figures (including Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Outkast) and Benin-born artists (Angélique Kidjo, Sagbohan Danialou). Aiming to amplify African and black voices, his work speaks volumes, far beyond what is said in his lyrics, and he has succeeded in highlighting the thriving art and culture of his native continent while reaching millions of listeners all over the world.
The artist’s newest single, “Right Thang,” features South African singer-songwriter and poet Busiswa. It’s just what the doctor ordered to bring us all back into a positive state as we continue to endure what could be the most challenging days we will ever see in our lifetimes. Rooted in hypnotic rhythms and melodies, the seductive pop-driven track is the perfect elixir to revive tired minds and bodies.
"I was in South Africa in January and connected with the wonderful Busiswa to create this Amapiano song. The genre was taking off in full effect. We made ‘Right Thang’ in one session,” he says. “The energy, the authenticity in the studio and everything all around us was so great - you can hear it in the song. Everything about it makes me happy, from Benin and South Africa linking up on a smooth banger to representing our continent once again proudly and taking our sounds to the world...it’s a beautiful thing, it’s the ‘right thang.’"
“Right Thang” follows “Zaddy” as the second single to be released from Shirazee’s upcoming EP Lost, which is set to drop on October 23. Listen below.
