Cigar Cigarette Teams Up with Naeem on New Single "Pantomime"
/Chris McLaughlin has constructed quite a career.
Having racked up countless writing credits for superstars such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Trey Songz, and many more, the Grammy-nominated producer and engineer recently stepped into the spotlight himself, releasing his debut EP “Natural History” under the moniker of Cigar Cigarette, his experimental electronic solo project, earlier this month.
“Natural History” birthed the intriguing single “Pantomime” featuring genre-bending artist Naeem (formally known as Spank Rock). A trippy exploration of the concept of time, “Pantomime” speaks to our tendency to get caught in the loop of life, going through the motions without ever really being present in the moment.
The music video, available now, was directed by Delaney Schenker and showcases McLaughlin’s penchant for experimentation, employing an original approach in its visual representation of the song’s lyrics. Fans are sure to watch mesmerized as moments of VHS glitching come together with powerful sequences of avant-garde choreography.
“I’ve been a really big fan of Delaney Schenker’s video art, use of vhs glitching and what he calls tracers for some time now,” McLaughlin explains. “Camryn Eakes’ avant-garde choreography and dance was the perfect place to begin building the dystopian motions of life that would become the foundation of the experimental visuals.”
After celebrating the release of “Natural History” with a successful show at Club Tee Gee in Los Angeles on August 7, as Cigar Cigarette, Chris McLaughlin will bring his inventive project to New York’s Sultan Room in September, date TBD.
