California Pop Duo KiSMiT Talks Sensual New Single "Look No Further"

Vibrant, funky, and completely magical, California-based duo KiSMiT has won us over with their infectious pop vibes.

Driven by love—the love they have for music and the love they have for each other—the pair just released their new single “Look No Further,” a sensual track that shows off the chemistry they have as a real-life couple. Tinged with a heavenly halo of soul, it dives into the inner workings of long-term relationships and the love that resides—and grows—within them.

KiSMiT talked all about “Look No Further,” the creation process, and more in their interview with Musical Notes Global. Check it out below!

MNGBlog: For those who may not yet be familiar with you, who is KiSMiT?

We are a pop funk duo hailing from Cape Town [Baz King] and SoCal [Carly Barnette]. We love each other, love making music and try to keep it as simple as that.

MNGBlog: Congratulations on the release of your new single “Look No Further”! What was the inspiration behind the song?

Baz: Thank you! ‘Look No Further’ is our revision to the old script that loving relationships grow old and stale.

Carly: Six years into this relationship, we keep discovering that the more we change and evolve the more exciting our intimacy and connection becomes and the deeper our experiences are shared.

Baz: Sonically, we were really inspired by Daniel Caesar’s album Freudian.

MNGBlog: Did you learn anything new working on this song?

Carly: The theme of our music is centered around love since our relationship is such an obvious part of our image and it’s an area we know a thing or two about, but this is the first time we’ve gotten sexy with our sound. I said to Baz, “I want to make a booty jam” (ha!) and sing about the magic connection we have. We live in such a hook-up culture with lots of cheap and tasteless access to sex. I felt it was important to talk about some of our more sacred moments while also learning what our boundaries are in sharing our private to the public.

Baz: We learned that we must always be open to a fresh idea for the benefit of the whole. We thought we had finished the song, and when we had our friend Drew ofthe Drew add synths and bass, the bridge was transformed and settled in a new land that elevated the song so perfectly.

MNGBlog: Do you have a favorite moment from the creation process?

Carly: I actually can’t believe we are going to share this but we were at a hair pulling moment of production, starting to get frustrated at some part of the process and our energy diverted to getting frisky in the studio when our friends walked in to grab their drum kit before a gig... I will never know what they saw but it definitely went unsaid and still lives on as the most memorable part of this process. Ayoooo can’t say we aren’t writing from an honest place (L-O-L)!

MNGBlog: How do you hope fans feel after listening to “Look No Further”?

Baz: I hope they feel like putting it on repeat.

Carly: Oh yeah, I second that and hope it brings a little sexy sparkle into their day. Maybe even inspires some to put their phones down and snuggle up, do what really matters, MAKE MORE LOVE!

MNGBlog: What are you most looking forward to in 2019?

Carly: Our upcoming tour in April is what I’m most excited for! As well as releasing our next music video “No Turning Back.” We have been working on this one for almost a year and I’m so thrilled it’s finally time to share it with the world.

Baz: Making more music, hitting the road with the band and taking in all the new experiences this year has to offer.
