Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter David Leonard has hit us right in the feels with his latest masterpiece.

Packed with soaring melodies and rhythms, The Wait is Leonard’s deeply personal new solo album. Through it, the Arkansas native addresses topics such as heartache, depression, confusion, and redemption with his family and with God, all filtered through a comforting, restorative, uplifting lens. From the steady synthy beat of opening track “Wanderer” to the emotional drive of the piano-driven “Come As You Are” and the resonant echo of “Threads,” the 13-track collection sparkles with inspiring hope. Cutting right to the innermost depths of anyone who is willing to listen, it sparks self-reflection and provokes a powerful meditative response.

“’Come As You Are’ is God’s response to us,” Leonard explains about one of the album’s most stunning tracks. “It is what I hope that God would say to his kids. It’s definitely also a thought of me as a father, thinking about what I would say to my daughters. It doesn’t matter where you are, doesn’t matter where you’ve been. Come to me, there’s no need to wait. There’s no need to hide anything. I am fully capable and able to handle all of your stuff.”

Music videos for each of the tracks included on The Wait were combined to form a short film that tells one overarching narrative. Watch below.

Now a resident of Franklin, TN, Leonard is an acclaimed songwriter who has recorded and toured with the bands Jackson Waters, NEEDTOBREATHE, and All Sons & Daughters.
