Get to Know Us: Upside Down

Spanish pop-punk band Upside Down have been jamming together since 2014. Comprising Quique Martinez (vocals, guitar), David Sanz (drums), Alex Castellano (bass), and Angel Fernandez (guitar), Upside Down have already released two EPS, have toured around Spain, and recently dropped their debut full-length album Scars Are Forever.

The band revealed details about making the album, what their hidden talents are, and more in this questionnaire-style interview with Musical Notes Global. Check it out below.

Alex

My favorite memory from recording the album was spending two weeks together in the studio. Doing what we love with the people we love. Not just friends...family.

I love performing live because of the adrenaline and the nerves before the show and get on stage and give everything I have every time I play.

I love our fans because they always know our lyrics and help us out doing their best in the shows and screaming their lungs out.

My favorite lyric from the album is Sixteen because I wrote it thinking about my pet which had been with me for the last sixteen years. It was really hard to me to say goodbye and I decided to write this song.

The first album I bought was Dookie by Green Day.

My go-to song at the gym is: I don't go to the gym haha but one song that totally motivates me is "Can't Kick Up the Roots" by Neck Deep. The energy it has always helps me keep on going.

My hidden talent is I can scratch any part of my back without any help and I can close only one eye.

Quique

My favorite memory from recording the album was the studio nights in the streets laughing about no sense things and enjoying the recording season.

I love performing live because it gives me a chance to express myself and make people feel what I feel for a moment. It's almost magic.

I love our fans because they are always really kind with us, apart of being the best singers and jumpers of all the country.

My favorite lyric from the album is Red Letter Days because every word has a very strong meaning for me, it gets me everytime I listen to it.

The first album I bought was Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park.

My go-to song at the gym is "Smashed Into Pieces" by Silvestein because every change of the song makes me motivate myself and push me to the limit.

My hidden talent is that I can make any kind of TV, radio or cinema voice.

Ángel

My favorite memory from recording the album was cooking in the street, we didn't have a proper ventilation in the place we were staying so we had to go outside to cook, it was hilarious to see the looks we got from some people.

I love performing live because you can see the result of all the work you have put in the music just by feeling the energy of the people who have attended to the gig to enjoy your songs.

I love our fans because: I'm new, I haven't had the opportunity to meet the Upside Down's fans yet.

My favorite lyric from the album is Red Letter Days because it explains how I am right now, it's a perfect description of how I feel everyday.

The first album I bought with my money was From Those Who Have Heart by A Day To Remember.

My go-to song at the gym is "Unanswered" by Suicide Silence because I will never listen to that song without feeling a brutal dose of energy, I give the 100% each time I hear it.

My hidden talent is that I can burp when I want.

David

My favorite memory from recording the album was eating precooked pasta everyday because we didn't have money for food. And working with Txosse, it was like he was another one in the band.

I love performing live because watching people jumping and singing your songs is always exciting.

I love our fans because they are always there supporting what we do.

My favorite lyric from the album is "Addicted" because many people can relate to it because it has multiple interpretations.

The first album I bought was All We Know Is Falling by Paramore.

My go-to song at the gym is any song from the album Dude Ranch by Blink 182 because they are very energetic and they motivate you.

My hidden talent is: Angel can burp when he wants but my hidden talent is that my burps are extremely loud.
